History of the journal

First trial issue was published in summer 1996, and later, in 2001, “Sumska Starovyna” (“Ancient Sumy Land”) was registered by HAC of Ukraine as a specialized publication of the specialty “Historical Studies”.

The journal introduces the following headings: “Archaeology”, “Military History”, “World History”, “Ancient History”, “Source Studies”, “From the History of Charity “, “From the History of Church Life”, “From the Economic History”, “History of Culture”, “Regional studies”, “Printing Pioneer”, “Personalities”, “Chronicle”, “Reviews and New editions”, “Photo Gallery” and others.

Work on the preparation of materials and their publication is carried out by employees of Sumy State University, although to collaboration are also involved researchers from other educational institutions, museums, archives, academic institutions all over Ukraine and abroad.

Thus, during the twelve years history of “Sumska Starovyna” (“Ancient Sumy Land”) were prepared for publication and published materials of authors from Paris, Kyiv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaluga, Tambov, Prague, Chernigov, Kharkov, Zaporizhia, Lugansk, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi , Kursk, Odessa , Mykolaiv, Tambov, Pskov, Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky, Uzhgorod,  Putyvl, Konotop, Glukhiv, Romny and other cities.

In 1998 the Honorary Diploma of “Sumska Starovyna” (“Ancient Sumy Land”) has been founded. It is awarded to the individuals, who served in the field of native science with personal contribution, selfless work in the field of protection and study of the monuments of our past and active research position.
