- Monasteries played a very important role not only in religious, but also in the economic and political life of the mediaeval states. Often due to it they were attacked and on this account only few of them survived nowadays. However, combination of the information from the written sources and archeological investigations lets us to reconstruct the whole the structure of the Old Russian monasteries on the left bank territory of Chernihiv.
